Supreme Court Legalizes Gay Marriage

Supreme Court Passes Gay Marriage

Today is a great day to be alive. The time has finally come!  Its official the USA Supreme Court has finally legalized gay marriage for the entire country. It only took them a ridiculously long amount of time. The US Supreme Court won just slightly with a ruling of 5-4 last Friday.

This decision is remarkable. The fight for gay rights has been going on for a very long time and hasn’t been taken seriously. Gay pride has become larger since the Stonewall Riots of 1969 that happened in New York City.

It’s great that this was announced and declared in June which is recognized as LGBT pride month around the world. The move is a major step forward for Equal rights in the U.S.

Gay Marriage in US

Huffington Post clarifies the amendment by outlining,

“Thirty-seven states and the District of Columbia already recognize marriage equality. The remaining 13 states ban these unions, even as public support has reached record levels nationwide.

The justices found that under the 14th Amendment, states must issues marriage licenses to same-sex couples and recognize same-sex unions that were legally performed in other states.”

The White House Blog has been heating up as the Obama Administration weighs in on this historic decision. Read more here.  President Obama said this morning that the ruling was a “Victory for America”.  Obama even called a same-sex marriage plaintiff right after today’s ruling.

Major news Outlets such as NBC News will undoubtedly be following this story closely for days to come, as will we!

There is now a trending hashtag on Twitter #LoveWins that is congratulating all the couples that can now be wed. I’ve never been a fan of marriage but I am a fan of equality and this day will go down in history.

Gay rights is just a matter of time. Look at the polls. Worrying about gay marriage, let alone gay civil unions or gay employment rights, is a middle-age issue. Young people just can’t see the problem. At worst, gays are going to win this one just by waiting until the opposition dies off.” –Gail Collins
