Russell Georgy Tovey was born in Billericay, Essex, England on November 14th, 1981 to parents Carole Haynes and George Tovey. He began as a child actorwhen he was 11 years old in 1994. He started off joining a local drama club when a talent agent noticed him. In 1994 he was cast in a children’s series broadcast on BBC called Mud. Since then he has done radio, theater, television and film such as The Emperor’s New Clothes, Muppets Most Wanted, Looking, Sherlock and The History Boys.
In 2004 he took a role as Rudge in the play “The History Boys” at the Royal National Theatre and was touring to Hong Kong, Wellington, Sydney and Broadway. He trained attending workshops and readings that the National Theatre.
He recently started acting in the HBO original hit series called “Looking” where he plays Patrick’s boss, a video-game prodigy. He has feelings for Patrick – though he is in a long term relationship with Jon. Looking is a bout a group of gay friends living in San Francisco.
Russell is currently working on the film “Banished”, an upcoming series written by Jimmy McGovern about a group of British convicts in Australia in the 18th century. It is planed to air in early 2015.
