So what does Davey Wavey do for a job? He is an online personal trainer, he manages up coming YouTube talent, creates two videos a week for his blog and has created merch lines. He is constantly busy working on all aspects of creating and running a successful YouTube channel, from research, emails, working with talents, contracts. There is a lot more work then just turning on the camera and hitting publish!
He majored in business at Catholic Seton Hall in New Jersey and also worked for the school as an RA. He graduated in 2006 and began working for Family Equality Council, a nonprofit that advocates for LGBT-headed families. When they wanted to give him a promotion he asked for Friday’s off so he could enjoy his life a little more, freeing up time to pursue his dreams. When his second promotion came up he asked to be able to work from home. He ended up moving from DC to Toronto and working remotely in 2007. He used his work computer to record his first video. It was late at night, the room was dark, he was shirtless (of course), the audio was really poor quality but a star was born ~ a YouTube star. He uploaded his first YouTube on June 21st, 2007 and never looked back.
One day he noticed his neighbor living a few floors down in the high rise where they lived was masturbating in front of the window. He turned on his video camera to talk about it.
“It turns out ‘masturbating neighbor’ is something people search for on the internet,” he says. “I never had any intention of people watching watching my stuff. … And at first I was really put off by it. I was using Youtube as be as almost like a journal to look back on in like ten or twenty years. And that people were commenting on my life was scary and off putting to me. On October 8th, 2008 he posted a video called “My Guilty Pleasures…” and that video now has over 16 million views. The thumbnail and title he chose might have something to do with that.
