Conservative Senator admits that being gay is not a choice

GOP for Gay Vote

Have you heard the news? Finally a conservative state senator has stepped up to the plate and said that he believes that gay people are born gay and that being gay is not a choice. Who is this senator? Marco Rubio that’s who! In a recent interview with CBS News, Conservative Senator Marco Rubio stated that being gay is not a choice. This is a wildly different view than that of other Conservatives figures and is a breath of fresh air. His exact words were “I believe that sexual preference is something that people are born with.”

In contrast, when Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker was asked the same question (a man who is strongly opposed to gay marriage) he admitted that he in fact attended a gay wedding reception. His wife’s cousin is a lesbian and although he made sure to say that he is still morally against it he is able to attend gay weddings with an exception for people that he loves.

He says, “Even though my position on marriage is still that its defined as between a man and a woman, and I support the constitution of the state, but for someone I love, we’ve been to a reception.”

Rubio has also said that in the event that somebody he loved was having a same sex wedding that he too would attend it. Despite them both being religiously against gay marriage they found that they were able to make exceptions for people that they love.

Is this a step in a new direction? Or is this just a way for them to exert their power over those who are not in office because everybody has somebody they love and hopefully they’d be accepting of them.

“I don’t think courts should be making that decision and I don’t believe same-sex marriage is a constitutional right,” Rubio said.

It seems as if conservatives are doing everything that they can to appeal to both sides. They want to be able to join and support the changing and accepting world while attempting to keep ties to the outdated and archaic views of the religious conservatives. It seems obvious that the GOP is trying to evolve as they gear up for the 2016 Presidential Election.  Will it be enough? Even though these changes are slight we are hoping to see more and continue growing so that everybody can live securely and happy.
