Tips For Making A Dating Profile

Online dating can be overwhelming if you are new to it. The first time I was on a dating site was back in 2004 and it came naturally to me, but I did make many mistakes along the way! I also ended up on some crappy dates. Following some of these tips might help make the process go a little smoother.

1. Make sure you are honest! Talking about about yourself and being honest will attract the right kind of person to you. You don’t want to lie on your profile and end up sitting across from someone on a first date and think how did I end up here? Believe me I have been here and it wasn’t a fun date! Be Honest!

2. When creating a dating profile make sure to ask friends who you trust to look it over and get their opinion. They know you best and will call you out if they notice something that doesn’t line up or looks out of place!

3. Try and be a specific as possible when you are talking about what you want in a partner and keep the list to to between three and seven points. (Read #4)

4. Make sure you don’t overshare! Keep your points to around five per topic. For example: When you are talking about what you are looking for in a partner make sure to post the five most important things to you. If you make a huge list it may come across as you are too picky! Men do not like reading long profiles that give away too much about you. When you meet someone in person for the first time you wouldn’t want to tell them your entire life story. The best way is to share in chunks, so keep your profile short and sweet.

5. Very important: Check your grammar. Most people over look this. Your dating profile is like a resume and you want to make sure you are proofreading it. When you have a friend look over your profile have them check for grammatical errors as well.

6. Stay positive! Make sure when you are describing or talking about a subject you keep it positive. You don’t want someone to walk away from your profile thinking: “Why is that person such a negative Nelly?”

7. Share your sense of humor. People are genuinely looking for someone that makes them happy and can make them laugh. When writing your profile try and share your comedic side if you have one!

8. Make sure to choose recent photos that are well lit. Choose images where you are having fun, smiling, exploring, doing sports, or on a vacation. Remember to keep your photos positive and fun. Try to use photos that have been taken in the last six to eight months.

9. If something changes in your life make sure to update your profile, like an amazing new haircut. You want to keep your profile current!

Happy dating!
